Country in Grips of Cold Wave, Temp Drops in Karachi

Islamabad (December 17, 2017): The country is in grips of cold with mountainous areas in northern part of the country in severe chill due to snowfall on the mountain.

The Met Department has forecast mainly cold and in most parts of the country during the 24 hours ending 8 pm tomorrow. The Met Department has also forecast rain thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is expected in Makran and Quetta divisions.

Very cold weather conditions are likely to prevail in Balochistan and northern areas of the country. Frost is expected at a few places in upper and central Punjab during night/morning. Foggy conditions are likely over plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during morning hours.

Meanwhile, cold wave has started blowing across Karachi and surrounding areas forcing the people wear additional warm clothes. The cold wave, as always is attributed to dipping of temperature in Quetta which according to report dipped to minus eight last night.

During next 24 hours weather is expected to remain cold and dry in Karachi with chances of speedy dusty winds. According to Met Department winds from north-western areas could blow at a speed of up to 36 kilometers an hour. The precipitation was recorded by the Met Department at 27 percent. Te Department has forecast slowing down of the speed of winds by tomorrow evening.

The northern areas and Balochistan are forecast to remain in grips of severe cold while in addition to severe cold certain areas of central Punjab areas are expected to be hit by fog. Fog is also expected to limit the visibility in early morning hours in certain plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh.

The coldest places in the country are Kalam  with minus nine degree centigrade; Astore and Malamjabba  with minus six degree; , Skardu, Dir, Kalat,  and Gupis five degree below zero; and minus four degree centigrade recorded in Quetta, Gilgit, Bagrot, and Parachinar.
