DG Rangers’ no-show angers Senate Human Rights Committee

ISLAMABAD: The members of Senate’s Functional Committee on Human Rights expressed anger at DG Rangers’ no-show.

According to details during the meeting chaired by Senator Nasreen Jalil, Senator Farhatullah Babar asked the representatives of the Law Enforcement Agencies present to tell why 6,000 people were arrested from Karachi, what were the reasons, and why were they released afterwards.

To this Brigadier Khurram Shahzad informed the members of the Committee that we conduct raids and make arrests those found innocent are released by the Rangers.

Additional IG Sindh Police Mushtaq Mehar told the Committee that after the August 22 incident 100 people were arrested by the police while 150 people were arrested by the Rangers all of whom except 13 have been released while these 13 persons against whom there are cases have been arrested formally.
