KARACHI: Director General Sindh Rangers’s absence from the meeting of Senate’s Functional Committee on Human Rights irked the members of the committee.
The meeting of the Committee was held here with Senator Nasreen Jalil in the chair. The members expressed their anger over the absence of DG Rangers Sindh. PPP Senator Farhatullah Baber questioned the officials of law enforcement agencies present in the meeting as to why six thousand people were arrested in Karachi and what were the reasons for their arrest. He asked the officials to inform the committee of the reasons of their arrest and why they were later released? Upon this Brigadier Khurram Shehzad told the committee that Rangers act as per law and conduct search operation and made arrested by remaining within the ambit of law. He said that innocent people were released after initial investigation.
Additional Inspector General Sindh Mushtaq Mehar told the committee that after August 22 incident police arrested 100 suspects while Rangers arrested 150. He said that out of them all the innocent were released and only 13 people were formally arrested
