ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar emphasized the importance of resolving international conflicts peacefully by diligently implementing United Nations Security Council resolutions to promote lasting global peace.
He made these remarks during a meeting with Ms. Michelle Bachelet Jeria, a candidate for the position of UN Secretary General, who paid a courtesy call on him in Islamabad today.
Ishaq Dar particularly stressed the need to address the long-standing Jammu and Kashmir dispute, as well as the Palestine issue, as key elements of his peace-oriented approach. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to upholding the principles enshrined in the UN Charter, including respect for international law and treaties.
The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted the crucial role of the United Nations in fostering global development and called for the organization to remain attentive to the concerns of developing nations.
Ms. Bachelet praised Pakistan’s proactive efforts to promote regional stability and peace, and acknowledged its significant contributions to the United Nations over the years.
