KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that Karachi will see below-normal monsoon rainfall this year, with no significant heavy rain spells anticipated.
According to the Deputy Director of the Met Office, the city is likely to experience light drizzle in various areas over the next three days, accompanied by pleasant, cloudy weather. The official also mentioned that humidity levels are expected to rise, along with occasional strong gusty winds.
Earlier forecasts by experts indicated that the upcoming monsoon season in South Asia might be affected by El Niño conditions, which typically suppress rainfall. The PMD further clarified that most regions are expected to receive less than average rainfall, especially in central parts of the country. However, some areas in the northwestern, northeastern, and southern regions may see normal or even above-normal precipitation.
The department also forecasted that temperatures—both minimum and maximum—are likely to remain above average across much of South Asia during the season. This combination of below-normal rainfall and higher temperatures could influence the regional climate patterns significantly.
