Election Commission issues notice to the Election Petition regarding Constituency 21 of Balochistan Assembly.

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Election Commission of Pakistan regarding the ongoing electoral petition related to Constituency 21 of the Balochistan Assembly.

The case, currently being heard in the Election Tribunal, involves a dispute over the victory in the constituency where Saleh Bhootani was initially declared the winner. However, after two re-counts, Ali Hassan Zehri was declared the victorious candidate, prompting a legal challenge.

During proceedings, Justice Shahid Waheed emphasized that, the matter is directly with the Election Commission and ordered the Commission to submit its response promptly. The lawyer representing the Election Commission, Khawaja Haris, stated that the Commission’s decision was contrary to the court’s previous order, and the bench instructed the Election Commission to clarify its stance.

The three-member bench, led by Justice Waheed, also directed the Election Commission to decide in accordance with the Constitution and applicable law. The hearing was adjourned indefinitely pending the submission of the Election Commission’s reply.

Saleh Bhootani’s application to the Election Commission has also been called for a response, as the legal challenge over the election results continues to unfold. The outcome of this case could have significant implications for the electoral process in Balochistan.
