34 Independent MNAs, MPAs Submit Party Affiliation: ECP

Islamabad (August 09, 2018): As many as 34 independent winning candidates including seven MNAs have submitted their party affiliation in election commission of Pakistan today.

According to the details, out of 53 national and provincial assembly newly elected independent candidates, 34 have submitted the documents of their affiliation today.

According to the sources, out 34 independents, 26 are MPAs, while seven are MNAs. All the independent MNAs including Saleh Mohamaad of NA 13, Mohammad Asim Nazir of NA 101, Syed Fakhar Imam of NA 150, Abdul Ghaffar of NA 166, Shabbir Ali From NA 181, Amjad Farooq of NA 190 and Ali Mohammad from NA 205 have joined PTI. In Punjab Assembly, out of 29 independent newly elected members 26 have submitted the affiliation oath today, 23 of them have joined Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf, while three have joined Pakistan Muslim League N, Pakistan Muslim League Q and Pakistan Rah-e- Haq party.

In KP assembly, the only independent newly elected member submitted affiliation documents in ECP and joined PTI.

The independent winners had three days from the announcement to officially ally themselves with political parties and officially notify the electoral body.

Thursday was the last day for them to officially join parties. However, the victory notifications of 34 constituencies have been stayed by ECP for various reasons including pending cases and delayed polls.Sources also reveal that 29 notifications have been received by the ECP out of which 28 are of those joining the PTI.

Earlier, addressing media in Islamabad,Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf Leader Fawad Chaudhry claimed that PTI has got the support of at least 180 members in National Assembly to elect Imran Khan as Prime Minister.

He said PTI is in a comfortable position in Punjab as well with the support of 186 members to form the government.

Fawad Chaudhry said that Imran Khan is expected to take oath as Prime Minister of Pakistan on 16th or 17th of this month.

He said consultations are underway to decide about the residence of Imran Khan as Prime Minister.

The PTI Spokesperson said Imran Khan has been receiving messages of felicitations from different heads of government and several ambassadors in Pakistan have called on him. This shows that world leaders are desirous of working with Imran Khan.He said PTI government will redo foreign policy.

Speaking on the occasion, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister-designate Mahmood Khan said Imran Khan assured him full support during his meeting with him today (Thursday).

He said PTI is united, and they will work as a team.

Earlier on Wednesday night, Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) agreed to support Imran Khan in the upcoming election of Prime Minister.

The decision was announced in a PTI-BNP (M) joint press conference in Quetta.

The Balochistan party pledged its support for Khan in the Centre after inking a six-point deal with PTI leaders who flew to Quetta to meet Sardar Akhtar Mengal and requested his party’s support for Khan’s prime ministership.

“We have signed a landmark agreement with the BNP-M,” PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi confirmed.

The issue of missing persons would be addressed on a priority basis, he said, adding that national action plan (NAP) would be implemented.

The document was signed by Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind, Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Jahangir Tarin from the PTI and Sardar Akhtar Mengal, Jahangzeb Jamal Dini and Agha Hasan Baloch on behalf of the BNP-M.Speaking on this occasion, Sardar Akhtar Mengal said that he had held a telephonic conversation with Imran Khan in details. “We hope that joint efforts would be made to address the challenges being faced by Balochistan,” he said.

The people of Balochistan had been facing difficulties for the past 70 years, he noted.

Mengal said that BNP-M and PTI had signed a historic agreement. “PTI has agreed to our six points as we wanted to seek reassurance that our issues will be addressed,” he said.
