Islamabad (December 16,2017): Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) secretary general Jehangir Tareen has tender resignation from his party position after the Supreme Court disqualified him on Friday.
The PTI’s secretary general sent his resignation to party chief Imran Khan, saying he hoped that the party head will accept his resignation.
He said he and the party chief faced strict accountability, and emerged victorious and added he was disqualified on technical grounds and was proud of his political struggle and the party.
The PTI chief’s leadership and friendship is an asset and will remain so in future, he wrote in his resignation letter.
He further said it is inappropriate to hold party position in the wake of the disqualification by the apex court.
On Friday, the Supreme Court announced its much-awaited verdict, rejecting plea to disqualify Imran Khan and declared PTI’s key party leader Jahangir Tareen disqualified on the petitions filed by PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi.
Abbasi had filed the petition seeking disqualification of PTI chief and party’s secretary general Tareen for not disclosing their assets and ownership of the offshore companies.Following the verdict, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) de-notified Tareen as a member of the National Assembly from NA-154 Lodhran.
