KP govt petition on CPEC: Differences emerge in PTI’s ranks

PESHAWAR: Differences emerged in the ranks of provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunhwa (KP) especially the ruling PTI over the writ petition filed in the Peshawar High Court by Speaker KP Assembly on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Project (CPEC).

Though the provincial government has filed petition in the High Court, PTI Parliamentary Leader in the KP Assembly Shaukat Yousufzai said that the Speaker Assembly had moved to the court on PEC without consulting them.

He said that though the petition was filed, some important ministers and PTI parliamentary leaders were not taken into confidence. He said that the speaker moved the court without taking them into confidence.

He said that they did not even know on whose behalf the petition has been filed. “Whether the petition is on behalf of the provincial government or the Parliamentary leader of the party, we don’t know,” he added.

He said that if the petition was on behalf of the government then the Speaker must have taken them into confidence.

It is to be mentioned here that the KP government had announced on Sunday to approach the Peshawar High Court against what it calls the non-fulfilment of promises on the part of the federal government concerning the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

The federal government had pledged to give the provincial government its rightful share in the CPEC plan, but the promise was not kept, Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani, a spokesperson for the KP government had said.

He had said the federal government had not even provided the provincial government with the documents related to CPEC.
