KU to Share Students’ Data with Intelligence Agencies

Karachi (Sep 9, 2017): Karachi University has decided to share details of all students with intelligence agencies for scrutiny.

The deicison was made during a meeting held at the university with Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan in the chair.

The decision came after several recent incidents wherein former students of the university found involved in militancy and violence.

The university will get approval of the decision from its academic council during its next session, besides a proposal for students to obtain ‘character certificates’ from police stations.

Police registered a case today against three suspected terrorists over a police encounter on Monday including a former student of KU’s Applied Physic Department.

The former KU student Saroch Siddiqui is dubbed by police as mastermind of attack on MQM leader Khwaja Izarul Hassan on Eid Day.

Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Sarosh Hashmat Lodhi also chaired a meeting of high-ups of the university over security issues.

The administration of NED University decided to increase the security checks and CCTV cameras on the entrance and exit gates of the university, informed a NED spokesperson.

Security in charges, hostel wardens, and administrative staff was present in the meeting to review the security situation within the campus.

Police are searching for the suspected mastermind of the Eid-day attack on Khawaja Izharul Hassan, the opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly.

Police said that banned outfit Ansarul Shariah’s commander, Sarosh Siddiqui, who escaped a police raid on Monday, is a student of Karachi University.
