Kurdish Referendum: Pakistan Puts Support Behind Iraq

Islamabad (October 02, 2017): Pakistan has expressed concern over referendum recently held in Kurd-dominated areas of Iraq on the issue of Independence.

In a statement issued here on Monday, Foreign Office Spokesperson Nafees Zakariya said the referendum held on 25th September violates the Iraqi constitution and therefore lacks any legitimacy.

He said that Pakistan joined Iraq and its neighbors, along with the international community, in opposition to the referendum.

He said that Pakistan was deeply concerned over any attempts threatening the territorial integrity of Iraq or any other country in the region.
