Islamabad (June 11, 2018): Islamabad High Court on Monday has declared Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui as Convener of MQM-Pakistan.

Justice Aamir Farooq rejected plea of Dr Farooq Sattar and rules out that Khalid Maqbool is MQM Pakistan’s Convener.

During the hearing, Babar Sattar appeared before the court on behalf of Dr Sattar and Barrister Farough Naseem represented MQM leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.Dr Sattar’s counsel had contended before the court that the ECP did not have the jurisdiction to interfere in a political party’s internal affairs. He had maintained that since the MQM-P was registered under Dr Farooq’s name, the ECP did not have the authority to hear cases by another person who claims to be the party convener

Earlier, Justice Aamir Farooq had reserved verdict on Sattar’s plea MQM-P convenership on April 17.

On March  29, the Islamabad High Court restored the MQM-P leader Farooq Sattar as the convener of the party.

The high court annulled the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan.

On March 28, Dr Farooq Sattar on Wednesday submitted a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) challenging Election Commission of Pakistan’s order to remove him as the convener of the party.

Farooq Sattar submitted his petition through his counsel Advocate Babar Sattar having the stance that the Election Commission decision regarding intra-party election and MQM convener-ship against the law and it should be termed null and void.
