ISLAMABAD: Special court on Tuesday has handed death sentence to former military dictator General (retd) Pervez Musharraf in the high treason case.
The special court, headed by Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth decided the high treason case with 2-1 split verdict against Musharraf. Two judges were in favor of death sentence where one was against it.
The decision was announced by Justice Seth Waqar of special court.
The court will issue a detailed verdict within 48 hours.
Earlier today, the government had sought to include former chief justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, former law minister Zahid Hamid and former prime minister Shaukat Aziz as co-conspirators in the case.
The court, before announcing its verdict, had rejected the request and directed the plaintiff to argue his case on merit. The special court had informed the plaintiff that the Supreme Court has already ruled on the matter.
The high treason case was filed against the former president by the PML-N government in 2013 for clamping the state of emergency on November 3, 2007. Musharraf was booked in the high treason case in December 2013 and indicted on March 31, 2014.
