NAB Orders Probe Against Siraj Durrani, Saad Rafiq

Islamabad (April 19, 2018): The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) broad its campaign against terrorism to Sindh and announced that it will launch an investigation against Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani for allegedly holding assets beyond his means.

NAB Chairman retired Justice Javed Iqbal also decided to investigate the matter of the alleged irregularities in the award of contracts by Durrani and Sindh Assembly Secretary Ghulam Muhammad Farooq during construction of the new assembly building.

The bureau was heavily criticized for having a “biased attitude” towards PPP when it arrested former Sindh home minister Sharjeel Memon in November last year over charges of alleged corruption.In a resolution that was tabled at the time — which all opposition parties except MQM rejected — members of the assembly had called upon the federal government to adopt a “uniform policy about its judicial system” throughout Pakistan and strictly follow it.

Action Against Khawaja Saad Rafiq

The NAB has taken the notice of complaints of irregularities in import of Railways machinery and leasing of land and ordered the inquiry against Railways minister Khawaja Saad Rafique.The NAB declaration stated that the severe misuse of national exchequer was reported in repairing of locomotive and leasing of Railways land illegally. It said that the misappropriation were also found in Saad Rafique properties deals.

On April 14, the Supreme Court ordered to conduct audit into the accounts of the Pakistan Railways after the incumbent minister Khwaja Saad rafique told the court that the Railways is earning a revenue of Rs 50 billion.Federal Minister for Railways Khwaja Saad Rafique appeared before a two member bench headed by the chief justice on Monday which heard the proceedings of the suo moto case over Rs 60 billion losses to the Railways.

The summon orders of the minister was issued on last hearing of the apex court in Lahore on April 07 and he was directed to explain the situation in his ministry.
