On April 19, Nadeem Afzal Chan met with the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan at his residence in Bani Gala and invited him to his residence on April 25. The invitation was accepted by Imran Khan.

On October 20, 2017, PPP Punjab Secretary General Nadeem Afzal Chan resigned from his post, reasoning that he resigned from the post as his brother Waseem Afzal joined political rival, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).However, sources revealed that the leader’s resignation was not accepted by PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who instead directed Nadeem to continue working on the post.
Later, co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari summoned the political leader to Lahore.“Since my brother has joined political opponent, I should resign from the post on ethical grounds,” he remarked.
“I am leaving the post, not the party,” the politician had shared, adding “I am faithful to the party and continue to work for it.”
The party is going through the worst crisis of its history in Punjab as it has lost most of the by-elections recently held in the province.Earlier, Firdos Ashiq Awan, Nazr Gondal and many other left the PPP to join the Imran Khan led party.,
Reports about Chan joining the PTI has been doing the rounds for the last few months .
