Opposition protest yields results: Ch Nisar turns up in Senate

Islamabad (May 12, 2017): The protest and walkout of opposition legislators from Senate against absence of Interior Minister yielded results as Federal Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan rushed to Senate to attend the secession on Friday.

Earlier, Opposition staged walkout from Senate session after registering strong protest against the absence of Interior Minister from the house during the debate on Dawn leak’s report.

Speaking on a point of order, Aitzaz Ahsan had said that the Prime Minister and Army Chief were not above the Parliament. He protested against the absence of Interior Minister, saying that today Chaudhry Nisar should have been present in the house as it is debating an important issue.

Aitzaz said that those who were not even present in the meeting were sacrificed in Dawn Leak report.

After lodging protest, the opposition lawmakers staged walkout against the minister presence.

Following the opposition walkout, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar rushed to Senate’s session.

A heated debate on Dawn leak and Prime Minister family’s business matters was held in the house.

Following PTI, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) also demanded that the Panama JIT proceeding should not be held in in-camera.

PPP Senator Sussi Palejo demanded that the Panama leaks was an important issue and the proceeding of the JIT should be opened for media to cover.

Seantor Azam Swati of PTI said that until the Prime Minister was not held accountable, no one would be accountable.

Senator Sirajul Haq said that until and unless powerful and influential people were not held accountable, no one could be held accountable in the country.

Senator Chaudhry Tanvir of PML-N while taking part in the debate said that Nawaz Sharif had restored the respect of dignity of military’s uniform.

Senator Taj Haider of PPP said that the Prime Minister and his family were not doing business in the country but his group was engaged in business across the world.  He added that what kind of investors were coming to Pakistan from across the borders.

Senator Nihal Hashmi of PML-N while responding the objections said that the Prime Minister was doing business for the country. He added that the Prime Minister’s name was not mentioned in the Panama Leaks.
