References Against Sharif Family, Dar Accepted: NAB

Islamabad (September 08, 2017): A spokesman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) rejected the reports that  Registrar Office of Accountability Court had raised objections and ay on the reference filed by the Bureau against member of Sharif family and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

The NAB spokesman said that the accountability court accepted all the four references filed by the Bureau for hearing.

It said that NAB filed four references and no objection whatsoever was raised on any of the reference or any of these was returned.

The spokesman added that four references were against Sharif family and Ishaq Dar.

He added that on the basis of the references filed by the Bureau the accountability court will initiate trial of the accused.

Earlier there were reports that the Registrar Office raised objections over the references for non-filing of complete copies in the court and returned the same.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has submitted four references against Sharif family members and Dar in an accountability court in Islamabad.

On Friday, NAB prosecution team went to registrar office of Accountability Court in Islamabad and filed the reference.

However during scrutiny, the Office raised objections on the reference, as the bureau did not file complete copies of the reference.

NAB has prepared four reference against Sharif family- Nawaz Sharif, his two sons Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz, daughter Maryam Nawaz and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

Earlier on Thursday, the Executive Board of the National Accountability Bureau gave approval to file the references.

After the meeting, NAB in a statement had said the Executive Board had given go ahead to file the references against Sharif family and finance minister Ishaq Dar.

The NAB Rawalpindi had briefed the meeting regarding the two references against Nawaz Sharif, Hussain and Hassan Nawaz, Maryam Nawaz and captain retired Safdar. The head of Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT) Wajid Zia will appear before NAB as prosecution witness.

NAB Lahore has also prepared the reference against Nawaz Sharif, his children and finance minister Ishaq Dar.

According to NAB, the references have been prepared keeping in view the details gathered by the JIT and NAB investigations in this connection.

The references against Sharif family are based on JIT findings that their incomes are more than their known sources of income, London flats, Flag ship investment, 15 offshore companies including Azizia Steel Mill  and Hill Mattel.

The reference against Ishaq Dar has been prepared for possessing asset well beyond his sources of income .NAB executive board meeting has left the issues of placing the names of Sharif family and Ishaq Dar on Exit Control List (ECL) and freezing of their account at trial court.

In its judgement in the Panama Papers case on July 28, the Supreme Court had ordered NAB to file references against Nawaz Sharif, his children Hussain, Hasan and Maryam, son-in-law MNA Capt (r) Safdar and Ishaq Dar. The accountability bureau was given six weeks, from the date of the court’s order, to file the references in accountability courts.
