Saleem Shehzad sent to jail on judicial remand till Feb 18

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court on Tuesday sent senior Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Saleem Shahzad to jail on judicial remand till February 18 in a case relating to treatment of terrorists at Dr Asim’s Ziauddin Hospital.

The court directed the authorities to provide treatment facilities to the accused and give him B class. Senior Superintendent of Police Malir Rao Anwar produced Shehzad in ATC amid tigh security arrangements.

Shehzad’s counsel told the court that his client was residing abroad for the last 25 years and had nothing to do with the case. He added that yesterday his client was arrested from Airport and his British passport, mobile phones and other articles were seized. He pleaded the court to direct police to return the same to his client.

The counsel further told the court that his client was a cancer patient and had to undergo chemotherapy after every 21 days and pleaded the court to provide treatment facilities to him in the jail.’

Upon this the judge sought report of Saleem Shehzad’s articles confiscated by police and directed the authorities to provide treatment facilities to him in jail, besides giving him B class.

On the occasion, Shehzad told the court that he had voluntarily return to join investigation in the case. He added that there was no case against him expect the one, adding that all the cases against him had been dropped under NRO.

Earlier, speaking to journalists, Saleem Shehzad said he had complete faith in the courts. He said that within next few days he would decide his political future.  To a question regarding MQM Pakistan leaders statements, he said that he would respond to MQM-P with ‘evidence’ in coming days. About PSP, he said:”These are kids and have to teach them swimming like duck .”
