Sindh Cabinet Declares NAB Law Ineffective in Province

Karachi (June 30, 2017): Sindh cabinet on Friday has declared National Accountability Bureau (NAB) law ineffective in Sindh and will also get approval from Sindh assembly soon.

The approval was given in a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah at the CM house after a briefing on the subject by Advocate General for Sindh Zamir Ghumro.

Talking to media, After the meeting, provincial law minister Zia Lanjar told that Sindh cabinet has given go ahead to make NAB law ineffective in Sindh and for its approval from Sindh assembly session would be called soon.

“After the approval NAB law ineffectiveness, NAB can’t take action in the institution working under the Sindh government, however action can be taken in the federal institutions working in Sindh,” he explained.

Provincial minster for information Nasir Hussain Shah said on that occasion that Sindh government was constituting its own accountability law. He told that  a committee has been set up headed by law minister.  The committee will propose anti-corruption laws within a month. According to him, the cases under trial by NAB will be handed over to anti-corruption.

NAB will only have the mandate to probe and hear cases related to federal institution after a formal endorsement from the Sindh Assembly, which is expected on Monday.

According to Sindh”s advocate general, corruption cases related to provincial institutions will now be probed by the Provincial Ehtesab Bureau.

A committee has been constituted by the cabinet to give recommendations for changes in the anti-corruption laws within a month.

The provincial cabinet also approved a proposal to impose restrictions on the establishment of new sugar mills in the province.

According to a Sindh government spokesman, the decision was taken in view of stablising provincial cotton production, further adding that the same ban was imposed by Punjab government.
