Youth killed in Malakand Power Protest; Wapda Office Set on Fire

Dargay (May 29, 2017):  A youth was killed and two other injured when a protest against load shedding in Dargay Tehsil of Malakand district on Monday turned violent and protesters set Wapda office and Levies police station on fire. 

As per details, perturbed by prolonged and unannounced load shedding people of Dargay area took to street to stage protest against Peshawar Electric Power Supply Company (Pesco).

The protesters staged demonstration on Malakand-Mardan Road. During the demo,  the enraged power protesters stormed Wapda Office Dargay and set it on fire.

They ransacked the officer and broke the window panes  and furniture.

In the meantime police and Levies rushed to the spot and tried to control the situation.  Levies personnel allegedly opened fire on the violent protesters due to which three of them were injured.

Later one of the injured succumbed to his injuries. The deceased was identified as Javed.

This further infuriated the protesters who went on rampage and also set Levies’s police station on fire.   The protesters are staging a protest demonstration along with the deceased’s body.

The deceased was President of Insaf Student Federation’s (ISF), the student wing of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, local unit .

Power protests are common phenomenon in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the province is currently experiencing worst load shedding being carried out by Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco).
