Forward Bloc Emerged in N As 12 MPAs Did Not Vote For Gujjar

Lahore (August 16, 2018): The political scenario continuously getting worse for Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) as 15 members of Punjab assembly [MPAs] did not vote for party’s candidate Iqbal Gujjar for the Punjab Assembly’s speaker today.

Earlier 159 PML N lawmakers took oath, whereas 147 members cast their vote in favour of Iqbal Gujjar. Three MPAs-elect of PML-N has not yet taken the oath.

In 2008, PML-N encouraged the forward block of 40 MPAs in PML-Q and just after 10 years, they faced the same situation as a forward block has emerged in their party.After the emergence of “forward block” PML-N feared the tally of rebel members can be increased, therefore they tasked Hamza Shehbaz to find out the names of rebellion members.

Earlier, several members of the party expressed displeasure as their lawmakers did not record protests during the oath-taking ceremony of the revamped National Assembly.

The members at a parliamentary meeting of the party presided over by former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif voiced their concerns on the election campaign and said key leaders focused on their respective constituencies instead of working collectively.On the other hand, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Khan Tareen on Sunday disclosed that party is in contacts with several MPAs-elect [member of provincial assembly] of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz.

Ever since Shehbaz Sharif took the presidency of the PML-N, ruptures have been deepening in party’s ranks over one issue or another.

Earlier, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi was elected as Speaker of the Punjab Assembly after securing  201 votes. PML-N’s Iqbal Gujjar secured  147 votes.

Outgoing Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal administered the oath.Two more MPAs-elect, Malik Muhammad Waheed and Muhammad Khan Leghari, were administered oath taking the total number of members to 355. However; four MPAs are still to be sworn in.

The speaker showed the balloting place to the members and switched off the CCTV cameras installed there.Earlier on Wednesday, as many as 360 Punjab Assembly newly elected members were administered oath by outgoing speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal during the first session of the assembly.

Several members including Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, Aleem Khan, Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Salman Rafique, Ayesha Chaudhry, Chaudhry Zaheerud Din, Bilal Yasin, Nadeem Kamran, Irfan Doltana, Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, Manshaullah Butt, Murad Ras, Dr Mukhtar Bharat, Zakia Shahnawaz, Uzma Bukhari, Hina Pervaiz Butt, Bushra Anjum Butt and Sania Ashiq took oath.

However; estranged Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Chaudhry Nisar did not attend the session.

Election of the Chief Minister Punjab will be held on August 17 (Tomorrow).PTI has 175 members in the assembly, PML-Q 10, PML-N 162 and PPP 10. Rah-e-Haq party has one member while three independent members are present.
