NEW YORK: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that Gaza has become a “killing ground” due to Israel’s obstruction of aid and its failure to fulfill its clear responsibilities.
Speaking to media on Tuesday, he said, “It has been more than a month, and not a single drop of aid has reached Gaza. No food, no fuel, no medicine, and no commercial goods have entered Gaza. With the cessation of aid, the door to horrors in Gaza has been reopened.”
Referring to the Geneva Conventions, Antonio Guterres emphasized that the occupying power is responsible for providing civilians with food and medical services. He added, “Today, none of this is happening, and no humanitarian aid is entering Gaza.”
The UN chief also criticized Israel’s proposed new system for providing aid, describing it as an attempt to limit aid. He clarified, “We will not be part of any arrangement that does not fully adhere to humanitarian principles.”
Antonio Guterres also expressed concern about the situation in the West Bank, stating that if the West Bank is turned into another Gaza, the situation will worsen further.
