ISLAMABAD: The Federal government has unveiled a relief package aimed at providing financial relief to consumers who use extra electricity during the winter months. According to the Power Division, the relief will apply to those who consume more electricity than they did in the previous year, with a flat discount of Rs. 26.7 per unit.
The package will be available for the period from December 2024 to February 2025. It will benefit domestic, commercial, and industrial electricity consumers.
Key Details of the Relief Package:
- Domestic Consumers: Relief ranging from Rs. 11.42 to Rs. 26 per unit.
- Commercial Consumers: Relief from Rs. 13.46 to Rs. 22.71 per unit.
- Industrial Consumers: Relief from Rs. 5.72 to Rs. 15.5 per unit.
Background:
Sources indicate that the original proposal was to introduce the relief package from January 2025, with the aim of increasing electricity demand from 8,000 MW to 15,000 MW during the winter months. Initially, it was suggested that the relief be capped at Rs. 12 per unit for extra electricity consumption. However, the government has now approved a more extensive discount.
This winter relief package is designed to alleviate the financial burden on consumers due to increased electricity usage during colder months. The Power Division has stated that this initiative will help balance energy demand and support households and businesses in managing their winter energy consumption.
