Government borrows $4.58 Billion in seven months

ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Economic Affairs has released details of loans in the first 7 months of the current fiscal year.

According to the EAD report, from July 2024 to January 2025, Pakistan borrowed a total of $4.58 billion. $2.3222 billion was received from various financial institutions, and $1.1268 billion was invested in Naya Pakistan Certificates.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs stated that the budget estimates $19.39 billion in loans during the current fiscal year. In the first seven months of the current fiscal year, borrowing was approximately 30% lower compared to the same period last year.

The EAD report states that, $6.3 billion in loans were taken during the same period in the previous fiscal year. From July to January, $1.0486 billion in loans were received from the ADB.

According to the report, the World Bank provided loans worth $573.8 million between July and January, with $99.1 million from China and $102.5 million from France.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs also stated that a total of $2.32 billion was received from multilateral institutions, and a total of $400 million was received in loans from the Islamic Development Bank.
