WEB DESK: Hamas has announced its acceptance of a comprehensive agreement aimed at ending hostilities with Israel, which includes measures to disarm its weapons stockpile and facilitate the phased withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip.
US President Donald Trump revealed late Thursday that an accord has been reached for Hamas’s “full disarmament,” describing it as a vital step toward establishing a new Palestinian administration in Gaza.
According to Hamas representatives, a special committee appointed by the Board of Peace will oversee the storage and management of the group’s weapons. The group expressed confidence that mediators and the Board would ensure Israel adheres to the agreement’s terms, including the Israeli troop withdrawal from Gaza.
Ghazi Hamad, a member of Hamas’s negotiation team, stated that the movement is making concessions to protect its people from further violence and displacement. “Israel will not interfere in the disarmament process. The National Committee will lead this effort,” he explained, referring to the National Committee for Administration of Gaza (NCAG).
There has been no official response from Israel at this time.
Despite a ceasefire in October, ongoing clashes have resulted in casualties, including the death of at least four individuals, among them children, in recent Israeli strikes.
The focus now shifts toward implementing the agreement. The Board of Peace confirmed that Hamas has committed to a detailed roadmap for executing the next steps of the Gaza ceasefire.
“Our priority now is actual implementation,” the organization stated, adding that the NCAG will soon begin a phased transition to full authority in Gaza.
Trump further announced that upon completing Hamas’s disarmament, Israeli forces will withdraw, and an International Stabilization Force will work alongside a new Palestinian police authority to ensure Gaza’s security.
Nickolay Mladenov, the Board of Peace’s top representative for Gaza, emphasized the importance of diligent verification and real progress, noting that “disarmament must be synchronized with withdrawal.”
Cairo is reportedly preparing to host an upcoming meeting involving Gaza truce mediators, including the US, Qatar, Turkey, and Egypt, to discuss the next phase of the ceasefire plan.
In his social media statement, Trump hailed the agreement as “historic,” stating that the phased disarmament is a significant milestone toward lasting peace and stability in Gaza.
