KARACHI: Pakistani actress Hania Aamir has come under heavy criticism on social media after posting a lively dance clip while the nation is mourning several recent tragedies. The controversy arose shortly after she shared a serious message on her Instagram Stories, addressing the heartbreaking incidents including the death of 14 newborns in Islamabad, the alleged rape and murder of a young girl in Haripur, and the killing of women by their own family members.
Prior to posting the dance video, Hania reposted a somber message highlighting issues of safety, violence, child protection, and the need for accountability. The message, set against a background song titled “Zulum Mit Jata Hai,” questioned how many more lives must be lost before meaningful action is taken.
However, a few hours later, Hania posted a contrasting video showing her enjoying coffee and dancing inside an open-roof vehicle in Karachi. Dressed in a Pakistan cricket team tank top and black trousers, she captioned the clip “God Bless the coolest girls on the Karachi roads,” which quickly drew criticism from social media users.
Many argued that sharing such a cheerful video during a time of national grief was inappropriate. The incident of the newborns’ deaths at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, where 15 infants were reportedly in the affected nursery, remains under investigation. The tragedy has deeply distressed the public, prompting questions about the timing of Hania’s post.
Some followers called on celebrities with large platforms to exercise more sensitivity when the country is mourning, while others criticized Hania for not addressing or showing support for the ongoing tragedies. The incident has sparked debate about the responsibilities of public figures to respond appropriately during times of crisis.
