IHC Disposes of Petition on Jail Facilities and Meetings for Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has disposed of a petition regarding the provision of jail facilities and meetings with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, after receiving assurances from jail authorities that all regulations and court orders would be adhered to.

The petition, filed by Noreen Niazi, sought to ensure that Imran Khan was provided with adequate facilities in accordance with prison rules and that he could meet with visitors. Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, who heard the case, issued a written order confirming that the prison authorities had complied with the court’s instructions.

A detailed report from the Superintendent of Adiala Jail was submitted to the court, stating that the previously imposed ban on meetings had been lifted. The ban, initially enacted by Punjab’s Home Department over security concerns, had restricted meetings with Imran Khan and other inmates. The authorities confirmed that the ban had been lifted, and a meeting between the petitioner, Noreen Niazi, and Imran Khan had been facilitated.

The report further explained that Imran Khan had appointed a coordinator to manage meetings in line with the court’s directives. Those wishing to meet the former prime minister were advised to contact the coordinator, ensuring a streamlined process for prison visits.

The court was also informed by the Deputy Superintendent of the jail that Imran Khan was being provided with all available facilities in accordance with prison regulations and court orders. The jail authorities assured the court that the PTI leader’s rights and welfare would be fully respected.

In light of these assurances, the court noted that the petitioner’s lawyers were satisfied with the statement provided by the jail’s Deputy Superintendent and the Inspector General of Prisons (DIG). As a result, the petition was disposed of, with the court concluding that all necessary steps had been taken to ensure compliance with prison rules and court orders regarding Imran Khan’s detention.

The decision marks a resolution to the matter, with the jail authorities now required to continue providing Imran Khan with all facilities as stipulated by law.
