Islamabad(June 20, 2018): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan filed an appeal on Wednesday against the rejection of his candidacy for Islamabad’s NA-53 constituency.
In his appeal, submitted to the appellate tribunal by PTI leader Babar Awan, it has been pleaded that the tribunal should reject the decision of the returning officer (RO) to reject his nomination papers.

The appeal states that the RO’s decision is against the Constitution.
The registrar of the Islamabad High Court informed later that Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani will hear the appeal tomorrow. 
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan has formed 20 appellate tribunals for disposing of appeals against rejection or acceptance of nomination papers.
According to an ECP notification, the tribunals comprised high court judges. Eight tribunals have been constituted for Punjab, six for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, four for Sindh, and two for Balochistan.
As per the election schedule, appeals against rejection or acceptance of nomination papers can be filed by Friday.
The decision on the appeals will be made by 27th of this month, after which the final list of the candidates will be published on the next day.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature will be 29th of this month.
The date for allocation of electoral symbols and publication of the final list of contesting candidates is 30th of this month.
Earlier, Election commission of Pakistan concluded the scrutiny process of nomination papers on Tuesday as candidates can challenge the Returning Officers (ROs) decision till June 22.
Earlier, the nomination papers of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan were cleared by the returning officer (RO) for Lahore’s NA-131 constituency and Karachi’s NA-243 but faced rejection for Islamabad’s NA-53.
The nomination papers were rejected over violation of Section N of the affidavit. According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, Imran did not fill the affidavit as per its requirements.

The RO also dismissed the objections raised against Imran’s candidacy.
Imran’s nomination papers for NA-53 constituency in Islamabad were challenged earlier this month by Pakistan Justice and Democratic Party candidate Abdul Wahab Baloch, who contended that the PTI chief did not fulfil the criterion under articles 62 and 63 on the issue of Sita White and her daughter Tyrian.
Earlier, the returning officer (RO) on Tuesday reserved verdict on the objections filed against the nomination papers of Imran Khan in NA-53 constituency of Islamabad.
Imran Khan’s legal counsel Babar Awan appeared before the returning officer today and presented his arguments over the objections to the PTI chief’s candidacy.
Awan remarked that they rejected the objections against Imran seven times in the written reply submitted to the ECP a day ago, adding that all the objections were based on falsehood.
On the other hand, returning Officer of NA-131 accepted nomination papers of PTI Chief Imran Khan.
Former CJP, Iftikhar Chaudhry had challenged nomination papers of Imran Khan.

Imran Khan was asked to appear in person today by the RO but he was unable to appear due to his busy schedule.
On June 18, Lawyer Babar Awan submitted the reply on behalf of his client Imran Khan.
Imran’s nomination papers for NA-131 present a tax figure different than what is mentioned in his tax returns filed with FBR.
The objection against Imran Khan was raised by a candidate of the Justice and Democratic Party led by the former chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry.
The erstwhile top judge claimed Imran was ineligible to hold public office under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution because he fathered a child out of wedlock with Sita White.
Similarly, scrutiny of nineteen nomination papers filed for three seats reserved for minorities in the provincial Assembly has also been completed.
