Indian PM Narendra Modi Pass Through the Confidence Vote

New Delhi (July 21, 2018): Indian PM, Narendra Modi with his ruling party BJP, passed through a confidence vote in a theatrical parliamentary session. After a debate of 12 long hours, more than 60 percent of the lower house voted in the BJPs favour.

But the vote was dominated by the theatrics of Modi’s toughest rival, Rahul Gandhi, when Gandhi approached Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the parliament session and hugged him affectionately. He said that, ‘You can abuse me, you can call me Pappu, but I don’t have a speck of hatred against you. I will take out this hatred out of you and turn it into love. I am the Congress’. He quickly left his seat and walked over to the PM, who was questioned with his behaviour and made a questioning gesture with his hand.

PM recovered his senses after few moments and grabbed his sleeve, and pat on his back saying something, while, the opposition leader winked mischieviously at Congress colleagues after returning to his seat. The BJP will move a privilege motion against Rahul Gandhi, said union minister Ananth Kumar. He further stated that his behavior was childish. He has grown old but it is unfortunate that he has not grown up. It is unfortunate that the president of Congress is so ill-informed and immature. He didn’t even appreciated the hug of Rahul Gandhi to PM Modi at the end of the speech.

Earlier, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government was challenged with a no-confidence vote as the opposition uses the new monsoon session of India’s parliament to challenge his administration ahead of general elections early next year.On July 18, Sumitra Mahajan has accepted a no-confidence motion moved by the Opposition against the Narendra Modi government.

Since December, Modi’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has faced numerous challenges, after a relatively smooth first couple of years in office. He narrowly won his home state of Gujarat in December with a wafer-thin majority, lost crucial by-elections in some states and failed to form the government after winning the most seats in Karnataka’s state election in May.
