International Labour Day being observed today

WEB DESK: Labour Day is being observed today across Pakistan and the entire world, with a nationwide holiday.

In Pakistan, the observance of Labour Day at the national level began in 1973 during the government of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

On this day, events such as gatherings, seminars, conferences, and rallies are held in cities and towns across the country.

HISTORY OF LABOUR DAY…

On May 1, 1886, workers, capitalists, and industrialists in the city of Chicago in the United States took to the streets to protest against exploitation. However, the police opened fire on the rally, killing and injuring hundreds of workers, and dozens of them were executed for raising their voices for their rights.

In solidarity with the workers of Chicago, May 1 is observed as International Workers’ Day in many countries around the world. Every year on this day, the commitment is renewed to intensify efforts to improve the economic conditions of workers.

Additionally, dozens of other workers who were arrested during this rally were hanged.
