NEW YORK: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres in New York.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Acting Prime Minister Ishaq Dar reiterated the reaffirmation of Pakistan’s full support for the United Nations’ central role in addressing global challenges including peace and security, development and environmental change.
Ishaq Dar highlighted Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to promoting global peace and security as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (2025-2026).
In his remarks, the Deputy Prime Minister underscored the importance of Pakistan’s role in the UN Charter, including its global peacekeeping missions.
He also condemned on Israel’s atrocities against the Palestinian people and said that Pakistan supports a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue, which includes the establishment of a viable and independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with its capital as Al-Quds Al-Sharif.
Dar also highlighted cross-border terrorism from Afghanistan and called for the UN support in countering terrorism within and from Afghanistan. He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire to provide humanitarian support to the millions of destitute people in Afghanistan and to promote its economic development, including through implementing connectivity projects between Central Asia and Pakistan through Afghanistan.
Secretary General Guterres thanked the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister for Pakistan’s active engagement at the United Nations as well as for its role towards maintenance of international peace and security in the form of its UN Peacekeeping contributions.
