Occupied Al Qudus: Israeli attacks have martyred 68 Palestinians and wounded 77 in the last 24 hours, the Gaza Health Ministry says,
while the international channel based in Qatar said that 15 people martyred since midnight.
The largest Israeli military raid on the occupied West Bank in decades continues with at least 18 Palestinians killed and dozens wounded after the first day of the incursion on Wednesday.
At least 40,602 people have been killed and 93,855 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza. An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led attacks on October 7.
On the other hand, the EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell says Israel’s major military incursion into the occupied West Bank must not be “the premises of a war extension from Gaza” and a repeat of the “full-scale destruction” seen in the Palestinian enclave.
The UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) suspended staff movement across Gaza after one of its “clearly marked UN humanitarian vehicle” was hit at least 10 times by Israeli gunfire at a military checkpoint.
Ireland joins calls to sanction far-right Israeli ministers
Ireland has backed EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell’s push to sanction Israeli ministers accused of deploying “hate messages” against Palestinians and disregarding international law.
Speaking to reporters ahead of a meeting in Brussels, Irish Foreign Minister Michael Martin said: “We will be supporting Josep Borrell’s recommendation for sanctions in respect of settler organisations in the West Bank who are facilitating (the) expansion of settlements, and also to Israeli ministers.”
The proposed sanctions are likely geared towards Israel’s far-right ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, who have publicly called for Israel to expand illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank and push more Palestinians out of Gaza.
Ireland, one of the EU’s most vocal supporters of Palestine, joined Norway in Spain in recognising Palestinian statehood in May.
