TURKIYE: A magnitude 6.2 earthquake occurred off the coast of İstanbul at 12.49 pm local time (GMT+3), according to Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported.

A powerful earthquake, centered near Silivri, on the outskirts of Istanbul, sent tremors across neighboring provinces. Initial reports from the EMSC placed the epicenter off the coast of Tekirdağ, but AFAD later pinpointed the inland Sea of Marmara as the origin.

The intense shaking triggered widespread panic, with residents fleeing homes and workplaces to gather in open spaces across the affected region. Many continue to wait outdoors, anxiously awaiting further updates.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said the earthquake had a magnitude 6.02. It was at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles) GFZ said.
