Jhang police declare girl student Ishal Fatima’s death as murder

GHANG: In a significant development in the tragic case of 17-year-old Ishal Fatima, who was raped and later died in Jhang, local police announced on Thursday that her death has been classified as murder.

The FIR filed against three suspects Khalilur Rehman, Omais, and Hassan has now been amended to include section 302, indicating murder, along with section 34, for complicity and conspiracy. The suspects are currently in police custody, and authorities are actively pursuing leads that may involve additional individuals.

Officials disclosed that the investigation is progressing swiftly to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify any other persons who might be involved. There is an expectation of further revelations as interrogations continue.

Punjab Prosecutor General Syed Farhad Ali Shah has taken a serious stance on the case, emphasizing its high-profile nature. He ordered the complete case record and the investigation report to be submitted immediately, underscoring the importance of swift justice.

According to sources, Ishal Fatima was allegedly abducted from Sultan Colony, sexually assaulted, and then transferred to a hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries after days of treatment.

The incident has caused widespread outrage in the community, with public demands for strict action against those responsible. The Prosecutor General highlighted that crimes targeting women and children are particularly grave, and no leniency will be tolerated. He assured that all legal measures would be employed to ensure justice, and the investigation would be closely monitored to prevent any obstacles.

The police had earlier apprehended all four suspects involved in abducting and assaulting the girl, based on CCTV footage. The accused—Khalilur Rehman, Hamesh Jogi, Hassan Koriana, and Haseeb Khan—were detained during late-night raids. The vehicle used to transport the girl to the hospital was also recovered.

The girl’s father has filed a case, accusing the suspects of abduction and demanding charges related to murder and other serious offenses. Investigators have collected evidence, including samples of medicines administered at the hospital, and are actively searching for facilitators who may have aided the accused.

Authorities continue their efforts to arrest all those involved and ensure justice for Ishal Fatima.
