July monsoon forecast: Rain, land slides, and urban flooding expected across Pakistan

KARACHI: The Meteorological Department has forecasted the arrival of monsoon rains across the country starting from the first week of July, warning of thunderstorms, urban flooding, and landslides in various regions.

According to the Meteorological Department, moist westerly winds are expected to enter the country from the evening or night of June 30. Humid air from the Arabian Sea is currently entering eastern and central parts of Pakistan, and from July 2, moist winds from the Bay of Bengal will also impact northern regions.

The forecast indicates that from July 1 to 6, regions including Kashmir, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Islamabad are likely to experience thunderstorms and rainfall.

The Meteorological Department further warned that on July 3 and 4, cities in Sindh such as Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana, and nearby districts, as well as northern and northeastern districts of Balochistan, may receive rainfall.

Additionally, there is a risk of landslides in northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galyat, and Kashmir from July 2 to 6. Urban flooding is also a concern in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gunjranwala, Lahore, and Faisalabad during July 1 to 4.
