Islamabad: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member of the National Assembly (MNA) Junaid Akbar elected unopposed Chairman of Public Accounts Committee.
The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), MNA Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, opposition leader in the National Assembly (NA) Omar Ayub and Senator Shibli Faraz have given the name of Junaid Akbar for the PAC chairman.
A meeting of nominating the Chairman of the PAC was held today where members elected Junaid Akbar unopposed for the slot.
The post was lying vacant since the government came into power following the February 2024 elections.
As per parliamentary traditions established after the 2008 general elections, the chairmanship of the PAC is assigned to the opposition, a practice that has been followed since then.
The PAC is considered one of the most powerful parliamentary bodies, with the authority to summon any individual or record from government departments in financial matters.
