Kapil, Sidhu, And Gavaskar Invited For Oath Ceremony

Web Desk(August 10, 2018): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan will take the oath as prime minister on August 18, Senator Faisal Javed said on Friday. 

PTI chairman Imran Khan, whose party secured 116 general seats in the National Assembly in the July 25 polls, is set to become the country’s next prime minister.

Faisal Javed also confirmed that three former Indian cricketers Kapil Dev, Novjot Singh Sidhu, Sunil Gavaskar had been invited to Imran Khan’s oath-taking ceremony.

President Mamnoon Hussain has summoned a session of the National Assembly on August 13 during which newly-elected members will take the oath of their office. Elections for the speaker, deputy speaker and the leader of the House will take place after the MNAs-elect take the oath.

Earlier today, sources said that President Mamnoon Hussain has decided to postpone his foreign trip in order to administer the oath to the next prime minister.

President Mamnoon was scheduled to visit Edinburgh from August 16 to August 19.

“The president will now embark on his trip after the oath-taking ceremony,” sources said.

Further, PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry on Thursday said, “Imran will be elected prime minister of the country ‘within the first round’ of the vote in the parliament.”

He further claimed that his party has the support of 180 members in NA.

Meanwhile, parties allied against the PTI, including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Pakistan Peoples Party and Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, have decided to field their own candidates for premier and National Assembly speaker.
