KARACHI: A deadly shooting near the Airport Colony gate in Karachi resulted in the martyrdom of a Shaheen Force personnel and injuries to another officer. The incident occurred when unidentified assailants opened fire on security personnel during a patrol.
According to police reports, the officials were attempting to stop suspicious individuals riding a rickshaw and a motorcycle. As they made the attempt, the suspects responded with gunfire, hitting one Shaheen Force officer fatally. The second officer was injured in the arm and was quickly taken to a private hospital for medical treatment.
The suspects managed to escape the scene on the rickshaw and motorcycle, police added. The attack comes amid ongoing security challenges in the area.
In a related incident earlier in the day, a police officer was shot and killed near Jamali Pul on the Super Highway. The officer was reportedly waiting for a colleague to arrive for duty when an unidentified individual approached him, engaged him in conversation, then suddenly opened fire.
The attacker seized the officer’s weapon and fled the scene on a motorcycle with an accomplice. The deceased officer, identified as Zaman of Sohrab Goth police station, sustained multiple gunshot wounds—estimated at five to six.
Authorities believe the suspects had been lying in wait to target the officer, highlighting the persistent threats faced by law enforcement personnel in Karachi.
