KARACHI: A group of armed assailants carried out a daring dacoity in Karachi’s Sachal police station area, targeting a residence in KDA Scheme near Fariya Chowk. The incident involved the theft of valuable jewelry and cash across two floors of the house.
According to police reports, the suspects stole approximately 10 tolas of gold jewelry and Rs. 200,000 in cash from one part of the house. In another section, they took 25,000 Saudi riyals along with other valuables. The raid is believed to involve three to four suspects.
During the robbery, a woman at the scene attempted to resist the attackers and was assaulted; she was reportedly struck on the head with the butt of a rifle. Crime scene investigators have been dispatched to gather evidence and assist ongoing investigations.
This incident comes at a time when official crime statistics suggest a decline in major crimes during the first half of 2026. During a high-level meeting in July, the Sindh Chief Minister was informed that incidents of terrorism, street crime, and various forms of violence had decreased significantly.
Specifically, Sindh Police reported that murders declined by 17.3%, robbery-related murders by 19.4%, robberies resulting in injuries by 25.4%, dacoities and general robberies by 18.9%, car snatching by 23.9%, motorcycle snatching by 31.1%, and motorcycle theft by 22.1%.
Police officials also noted that mobile phone snatching was the only major crime category showing an increase, prompting authorities to increase their efforts to curb this trend. Additional IG Karachi Azad Khan informed the Chief Minister that overall street crime in the city had dropped by 11.77% compared to the previous year.
Furthermore, fatalities and injuries caused by robberies have also seen a decline, with deaths down by 38.3%, injuries by 39.1%, vehicle snatching by 24.3%, and motorcycle snatching by 27.8%, indicating improvements in Karachi’s security situation.
