KARACHI: A violent incident in Orangi Town’s Mominabad area resulted in the deaths of two individuals, police reported. A man was shot and killed in what is believed to be an honor killing, while the maternal uncle of the attacker’s alleged accomplice died after being assaulted by local residents.
The victims have been identified as Abbas Ali and Bakht Ali. Authorities stated that Abbas Ali had married a woman of his own choosing. The main suspect, Abdul Rahim, reportedly opened fire on Abbas Ali, accompanied by his maternal uncle and another accomplice.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that Abdul Rahim was apprehended along with one other suspect, and a firearm was recovered from them. According to Abdul Rahim’s account, their motorcycle broke down as they attempted to escape after the shooting.
The maternal uncle of Abdul Rahim was caught by some citizens and subjected to violence, which resulted in his death at the scene. Police revealed that the uncle was related to Abbas Ali’s wife.
In addition, two other suspects have been taken into custody. They are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing.
This incident echoes a similar case reported in Karachi on August 18, where a woman named Fatima, who had married by her own choice, was shot dead during an attack in Gulshan-e-Hadeed. Her husband, Akbar, was critically injured in the same incident.
According to reports, the attack occurred within the jurisdiction of the Steel Town Police Station, and CCTV footage of the shooting surfaced publicly. The couple, residents of Dhabeji, had been under police protection after a court in Thatta ordered security for them. Police had escorted them toward Karachi but left them within city limits.
Footage from the National Highway toll plaza showed a police vehicle accompanying the couple during their journey. However, after police withdrew, armed men in a white vehicle opened fire on the couple. Fatima was killed, while her husband Akbar and a third person sustained injuries.
Authorities stated that the attack was targeted while the couple was returning from court. The assailants fled toward Thatta after the shooting.
Investigations revealed that Akbar and Fatima were traveling together on a motorcycle with a friend named Umer. Fatima was hit by two bullets, and Akbar was shot six times, leaving him in critical condition. Umer was also wounded but was out of danger.
