Karachi to Get a New Graveyard to Facilitate Citizens: Murtaza Wahab

KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has announced that a new graveyard will be constructed in Karachi to make burial arrangements easier for residents.

Speaking at a press conference at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) office, Wahab said that many commercial areas in the city were previously in poor condition. He added that development work is currently underway in several parts of the city.

He said that development projects worth Rs750 million will be carried out in the Old City Area. According to him, improvement work will take place in markets such as Lea Market, Khajoor Market, Mithadar, and Kharadar, while around Rs1 billion is being spent on upgrading different markets across the city.

The mayor further stated that the city government plans to spend Rs68 billion on Karachi this year. He explained that 1,058 development schemes have been planned, including road repairs and restoration of old buildings. Development work will also be carried out in the internal streets of different towns to ease the problems faced by citizens.

Wahab added that development work around Gul Plaza was supposed to start earlier, but it was delayed due to an unfortunate incident at the site. He also said that work has begun on a large bird aviary at Kidney Hill Park, which is expected to be the largest of its kind.

The mayor announced that a new graveyard will be built on Memon Goth Road within two months to provide relief to citizens. He said Rs430 million will be spent on new graveyard projects. In addition, construction work has started at the Azeempura Intersection, where a flyover will be built to eliminate the traffic signal and improve traffic flow in the area.
