Abduction of Chinese Couple: Team constituted for Investigation

Quetta (May 25, 2017): The two Chinese Nationals, who were kidnapped from Jinnah Town area of Quetta on Wednesday by unknown armed men on gun point, have not yet been recovered.  The provincial government constituted a three-member team to investigate the matter and recover the Chinese nationals.

Sources said that police and law enforcement agencies have conducted raids and carried out search operation in different areas of the city and picked up many suspects.

It is to be mentioned here that unknown abductors had kidnapped the foreigner on gun point.

The Chinese couple was running a Chinese language centre in the city.

One Chinese woman managed to escape and ran back to the centre, while a passer-by received a gunshot wound.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri suspended the concerned Deputy Superintendent of Police, the SHO of Jinnah Town and SHO Gwalmandi over their alleged negligence in connection with the kidnapping of the Chinese nationals.

On the other hand, china has condemned the armed kidnapping of a Chinese couple in Pakistan on Thursday, after the abduction raised safety concerns for Beijing´s multi-billion dollar investments in the country.

“The Chinese government attaches high importance to the safety of Chinese citizens overseas,” foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang said during a regular press briefing.

“We condemn all forms of kidnapping activities,” Lu said, adding that the government was working closely with Pakistani authorities to ensure their release.

The abduction happened Wednesday afternoon in Quetta, the capital of the southwestern province of Balochistan, which is at the heart of the $50-billion China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project but is racked by separatist and Islamist insurgencies.

Mineral-rich Balochistan has been plagued by Islamist and separatist insurgencies since 2004, with hundreds of soldiers and militants killed in the fighting.

A greater push towards peace and development by Pakistani authorities, including with CPEC, has reduced the violence considerably in recent years.
