PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa announced a new initiative aimed at empowering women and students, introducing a merit-based electric bike scheme specifically for female commuters, including working women, college, and university students. The scheme is part of the province’s broader push towards sustainable transportation.
During the 57th provincial cabinet session, the chief minister also voiced serious concerns regarding the health condition of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Afridi accused the federal government of breaching Supreme Court directives by secretly transferring Khan to a hospital under cover of night, describing the incident as an affront to judicial authority. He called on the judiciary to uphold justice and ensure accountability.
Afridi further stated that Imran Khan’s health has worsened under federal supervision, noting that he was in good health at the time of his arrest but has since been kept in solitary confinement for nearly nine months.
In addition to the electric bike scheme, Afridi revealed plans to introduce electric rickshaws and accelerate the development of electric buses at divisional headquarters across the province, emphasizing the government’s commitment to clean energy transportation solutions.
