PESHAWAR: In a significant move toward digital governance, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police have launched a new online platform allowing residents to access their driving licences via smartphones. This innovative service enables users to obtain and display a digital version of their driving licence through the Rabta app by simply entering their national ID number. The entire process reportedly takes only a few minutes.
Officials in Peshawar have announced that digital licences will be legally acceptable during traffic stops, meaning drivers who forget to carry their physical licences will not be penalized as long as they can present a valid electronic version on their devices. The system also facilitates real-time verification of licence details, promising quicker and more transparent roadside checks.
Dr. Mohammad Zahid, the Chief Traffic Officer of Peshawar, emphasized that this initiative marks a progressive step in integrating technology into traffic management. He added that the digital licences would also assist individuals who misplace or forget their physical documents, enhancing convenience for everyday commuters.
This development aligns with broader efforts by the KP government to digitize public services, aiming to improve efficiency and accessibility for citizens across the province.
