Islamabad (August 13, 2018): The first session of 15th National Assembly commenced on Monday as 329 members of the lower house of the parliament took oath after July 25 general elections.

Outgoing NA speaker Ayaz Sadiq presided over the historic session and administered oath to the MNAs-elect in the 342-member house.

The session begun with the MNAs-elect standing up for the national anthem and was followed by the recitation of the Holy Quran. The speaker then read out the procedure for the election of the new speaker and deputy speaker.

He then administered oath to the MNAs-elect following which they signed the roll of members in alphabetical order. PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari was the first one to sign the roll register.

PM-in-waiting Imran Khan, PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, Shireen Mazari, Asad Umer, Pervez Khattak, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Munazza Hassan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi among others attended the first session of the revamped House.PTI chief Imran Khan warmly met various political members including Bilawal and posed for a photograph with him.

Strict security arrangements were made for the occasion as at least a thousand security men were deployed in and oustide the parliament building.

The Constitution makes it mandatory to convene NA session within 21 days of general elections. After the oath-taking ceremony, the speaker prorogued the NA session until August 15, when the new speaker and deputy speaker of the assembly will be elected.

The deadline for submitting nomination papers for the aforementioned slots is 12am, Tuesday while the voting will take place the same day.Former speaker of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Asad Qaiser has been nominated by PTI for the slot of NA speaker and will contest against PPP’s Syed Khursheed Shah, a joint candidate of the opposition’s 11-party alliance, Pakistan Alliance for Free and Fair Elections.

On the other hand, PTI chairman Imran Khan will face PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif for the office of the prime minister. The new premier will be chosen on August 17 while the oath will be administered on August 18.

Inaugural sessions of provincial assembliesThe inaugural sessions of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan assemblies were also held today while that of Punjab will be held on August 15.

During the sessions, newly elected members of the provincial assemblies took oath from outgoing speaker. The lawmakers will elect speakers, deputy speakers and leaders of their respective houses.

Several Political Bigwigs To Take Oath as MNA For First Time

Several political bigwigs including Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, ] and former Punjab law minister Rana Sanaullah will make their debut in the NA. Likewise, Asif Ali Zardari will step into the parliament after span of 25 years in the capacity of MNA.

Many Bigwigs Out failed to make NA

Many big guns including likes of Former Prime Minister, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Chaudhry Nisar, Khawaja Saad Rafique, JUI (F) chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman and PkAMP chieftain Mahmood Khan Achakzai failed to make their way into the lower house of the parliament.

PM To Be Selected On August 17

The selection of the Prime Minister is conditional on the submission of their nomination papers on August 16, which, if done as per schedule, would pave way for the process to be completed by the evening on the same day. Otherwise, the selection will be done on the morning of August 17.

The Prime Minister-elect’s oath-taking ceremony is slated for August 18, at the President House.

Once the allotment of general seats was finalised, those reserved for women and minorities were also allocated to the political parties.

PTI Leading with 158 Seats In National Assembly

Leading the race with the most number of MNA-elects is the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) with 158 seats (125 general, 28 women and five minorities).However, candidates with dual nationalities are required to leave their seats which would reduce the tally for the Imran Khan-led PTI, leaving them to rely on support from Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s seven members, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s five, Balochistan Awami Party’s five, and Balochistan National Party-Mengal’s four members.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz is in second place with a total of 82 seats, after winning 64 general seats, two minority seats and 16 women seats.

The Pakistan Peoples Party is at a distant third with a total of 53 seats, with 42 general seats, two seats reserved for minorities, and nine reserved for women.

Security Arrangements Tightened 

From Bani Gala to the Parliament House, security arrangements have been finalised, authorities and sources confirmed, while additional measures will also be implemented for the first session of the 15th NA.

According to sources, the security in the district, including the red zone areas, will be on “red alert” — or high alert — in light of the NA session, and only people with special passes will be allowed into the Parliament.

Police and Rangers have been deployed as per the stricter security measures for the day. No random person would be let into the red zone.

Newly elected KP Assembly members sworn in

Newly Elected MPAs of the KP Assembly on Monday took the oath of their office in the Inaugural session on Monday.

As many as 112 newly elected members were adminsteredPML-N leader Sardar Aurangzeb Nalota administered the oath to KP members as ex-speaker Asad Qaiser, who has now been elected as MNA, was in Islamabad for swearing-in ceremony.

Election for the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be held on Wednesday.

Nomination papers for the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker can be submitted by 04:00 pm tomorrow.

In the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, the PTI has increased its seats share to 64 members after the inclusion of two independent members in the party’s fold. With the numbers in hand, the party has taken its seat total to 84 seats after addition of 16 women and two minority seats.The MMA is at the distant second with 13 seats including 10 general seats, two women, and a minority reserved seat.

ANP secured a nine-member representation with seven members on general seats and two seats on women reserved seats.

The PML-N won five general seats, and with the addition of one women reserved seat, its tally stands at six in the provincial assembly. The PPP with four general seats and one women reserved sear stands with the total of five seats.

New Sindh Assembly Sworn In

Newly elected members of Sindh Assembly were administered oath of their office on Monday.

The inaugural session of the assembly was chaired by the speaker, Agha Siraj Durrani.

Few members of the assembly took oath in Sindh, Urdu and English Languages.

168 members of the house took oath for the upcoming tenure of the Sindh Assembly

The house will also elect speaker and deputy speakers on August 15. Nomination papers for the leader of the House will be submitted on the same day while its scrutiny will be held on August 16.On August 17, the leader will be chosen whereas Sindh Chief Minister will take oath the same evening.

In the Sindh Assembly, the PPP won 73 general provincial assembly seats, with the inclusion of five minority and 17 women reserved seats, it is leading the tally with 95 seats.The PTI has been allocated 30 seats, including 23 general seats, five reserved women, and two minority members. While the MQM-Pakistan will have its 21 members in the assembly after winning 16 general seats, four reserved women and one minority seats.

The GDA will have 15-member representation in the Sindh Assembly. Under the seat-share formula, it has been given four reserved women and one minority seat on its 10 general seats.

Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) will have three members in the legislative assembly with two members on general seats and one reserved women seat. Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal will have one-member representation in the assembly.

Balochistan Assembly Members Take Oath 

Newly elected members of the Balochistan Assembly on Monday took oath as member for the upcoming tenure of the Assembly.

Speaker Rahila Hameed Khan Durrani administered the oath to the  61 MPAs in Balochistan Assembly.

Newly Elected Punjab Assembly Session Summoned on August 15

The session of Punjab Assembly has been summoned on August 15 after the summary pertaining to the matter received approval.Newly elected Members of Punjab Assembly (MPA) will take oath after which speaker and deputy speaker will be chosen.
