Man attempts self-immolation in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: Man attempted to set himself on fire, resulting in his wife sustaining serious injuries while lighting the fire. The incident occurred in Officers Colony on Misriyal Road, a locality within the garrison city.

The individual involved has been identified as Qasim, aged 32. Authorities responded promptly after receiving the distress call, with Rescue 1122 teams arriving at the scene to transport both Qasim and his wife to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

This is not an isolated incident; earlier in May 2026, another case of self-immolation was reported in the same area. In that incident, a man allegedly murdered a young woman and then set her body ablaze in Dhamial. The victim’s body was subsequently taken to the District Headquarters Hospital for autopsy.

The suspect from that case was admitted to Holy Family Hospital with over 90% burns. Police registered a murder case based on the complaint of Mohammad Naseem, a foot constable, who was on duty in Liaquat Colony when he received an emergency call about a house fire around 9:45 am.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman’s charred body with visible cuts on her head and hands inside a room. Nearby, they found the suspect severely injured, indicating the severity of the burns sustained during the incident.
