Misbah questions player safety amid Pakistani exodus from Nepal league

ISLAMABAD: Seven of the eight Pakistani cricketers in the Nepal Premier League have left the country, with Hussain Talat the only one still there.

Former Pakistan captain and coach Misbah-ul-Haq criticised the playing surface and malfunctioning floodlight towers, saying player safety must come first. Tensions had also risen over a decision to stage matches as five-over contests, prompting the Sudurpaschim Royals to protest. The match went ahead after talks, and Biratnagar Kings won by 35 runs. Misbah also said he was disappointed that the team captain was not invited to the post-match ceremony.

A separate dispute concerns a reported $25,000 participation fee for each Pakistani player. PCB sources said the amount had been sought from franchises, not from the players.

The Pakistani contingent included Sahibzada Farhan, Talat, Haider Ali, Hunain Shah, Iftikhar Ahmed, Hasan Ali and Usama Mir, alongside one other player. The tournament is due to run until November 21.
