WEB DESK: Spotify may introduce an optional AI add-on for Premium subscribers as early as the first quarter of 2027, according to a *Financial Times* report. The package could cost an additional $4 to $5 a month, potentially raising the subscription price by as much as 39 per cent.
The proposed tools would let users remix existing tracks and generate cover versions in the style of different bands. Spotify is reportedly discussing the plans with record labels, but how artists would be compensated for AI-created music has yet to be settled. Some musicians have also been reluctant to allow their work to be used.
Music platforms have shown varying approaches to AI-generated material: Qobuz is pulling back, while Spotify and Tidal are described as more open to it. One analyst cited by the *Financial Times* estimates that around 8 per cent of Spotify subscribers might pay for the AI package by the end of 2028.
