GILGIT: During a meeting of the PML-N Parliamentary Board for Gilgit-Baltistan, former Prime Minister and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif emphasized that the Pakistan Muslim League-N has an unparalleled history of progress and public service in the region.
Attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Nawaz Sharif expressed pride in the unity and dedication demonstrated by the party’s leadership, viewing it as a strong sign of commitment to Gilgit-Baltistan’s development.
He asserted that the PML-N possesses a deeper understanding of the region’s needs than any other political party, citing major infrastructure projects initiated during his tenure.
Referring to a significant road project valued at over sixty billion rupees, Nawaz Sharif pointed out that it drastically cut travel times from twenty-four hours to approximately ten hours, greatly improving connectivity and supporting local communities.
He voiced confidence that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shares his vision for the region’s progress and will continue to build upon current development efforts. At the same time, Nawaz stressed the importance of local leadership playing an active role, encouraging resource generation beyond federal funding and urging efficient use of available budgets for public welfare.
Highlighting the tourism potential of destinations like Skardu and Hunza, he called on local authorities to actively promote and develop these areas to attract international visitors.
Nawaz Sharif reaffirmed his strong attachment to Gilgit-Baltistan and pledged ongoing support for its growth and prosperity.
He also reiterated that the PML-N’s focus remains on tangible achievements rather than political slogans, emphasizing the party’s contributions in development, governance, and national defense.
The former Prime Minister praised Pakistan’s improving global standing under the current leadership and acknowledged the efforts of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for elevating Pakistan’s diplomatic profile.
