ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, is set to become the new Foreign Secretary of Pakistan. The announcement was made by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar via social media platform X.
Dar also informed that the current Foreign Secretary, Amna Baloch, will retire on the 17th of this month. He expressed confidence in Asim Iftikhar’s leadership, stating that the Foreign Office will continue to serve Pakistan’s interests with professionalism, clarity, and purpose, building on the legacy of Ambassador Amna Baloch and her predecessors.
The Deputy Prime Minister praised Amna Baloch for her dedicated service and leadership during a pivotal period in Pakistan’s diplomatic history. Upon retirement, she will take on the role of Pakistan’s Ambassador to Türkiye.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved these appointments, with Ishaq Dar emphasizing the government’s support for the transition in Pakistan’s diplomatic corps.
